MAS CODINA

Toni and Jordi Garriga farm roughly 36 hectares of vines in the village of Puigdalber, located in the middle Penedes, on land that features slightly heavier, more clay dominant, less calcareous soils than those of the more famous cava houses in the Alt Penedes. Perhaps for this reason, or maybe due to the  small dollops of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which are added to the traditional blend of Xarel-lo, Parellada and Macabeo, the wines of Mas Codina are always generous, with completely ripe, harmonious fruit flavors. They keep their yields low, farming their land themselves in order to achieve the best products possible. To that point, their Cavas tend to have a full 24 months on the lees and are always riddled by hand, almost unheard of for sparkling wine under $15! A dosage of between 8-10g/l ties the wine together, making this one of our favorite producers for party bubbles.
