Cristian Boffa
A rising name in La Morra: single-vineyard Barolo from the Capalot cru, a commune blend from the four Santa Maria vineyards, and the Dolcetto the family drinks at home.
Cristian Boffa farms in Santa Maria di La Morra, the commune whose Barolo is the most perfumed and immediate of the five great villages. The wines are made simply — fermentation in steel, ageing in large Slavonian casks — so that La Morra's roses, red cherry and blood orange come through undisguised.
The "Capalot" is the estate's statement: Nebbiolo from the Capalot vineyard area, elegant and vibrant, with the taut, refined tannins of a serious cru and a rare 94 from Vinous at this price. The "Del Comune di La Morra" blends all four Santa Maria vineyards into a plush, inviting Barolo for a Tuesday; the Dolcetto d'Alba is bottled young and served slightly cool.
