Domaine de Fontbonau
Frédéric Engerer of Château Latour and his childhood friend Jérôme Malet set out to make the best Côtes du Rhône in the world, on 42 hectares in the Enclave des Papes.
Domaine de Fontbonau is a joint project between Frédéric Engerer, the president of Château Latour, and Jérôme Malet, a grower from the Roussillon — childhood friends with a purported goal of achieving the best Côtes du Rhône in the world. They chose a 42-hectare property in the Enclave des Papes near Valréas, the papal enclave of the Vaucluse surrounded by the Drôme.
The Côtes-du-Rhône and the single-parcel Les Chaux are the reds; there is a white as well. A newer property, but hardly timid.
