Laurent Gauthier

Morgon from the Côte du Py, the blue-schist hill that makes the most serious Gamay in Beaujolais — and a Chiroubles for lift.

Laurent Gauthier farms the Côte du Py in Morgon, the hill of decomposed blue schist that gives Beaujolais its most structured, age-worthy Gamay. His Morgon Côte du Py is suave and mineral — fresh red and dark berries, potpourri and spice, bright and nervy, with surprising vivacity for its heft and a long, sappy finish. Vinous: 92.

The Chiroubles Chatenay, from the highest cru, is the lighter, more floral counterpart.
