Drink for a Good Cause: Australian Wildfires

As you’ve likely heard, Australia’s wildfire season has been devastating this year, with more than 46 million acres/72,000 square miles estimated to have been burned by fires—which number in the thousands—since July 2019. And, with little rain expected, the fires will likely continue through Australia’s summer season. More than 50 are still burning as of today.

So many aspects of Australian life have been affected, but one that is particularly significant is habitat loss and the threat to ecosystems. Over 1 billion animals have lost their lives so far, including half of South Australia’s koala population. And, as habitats continue to be destroyed, there’s risk to additional animals who will die from lack of food and shelter. Several endangered species are facing the risk of total extinction.

For this reason, the proceeds from the tastings in all three stores this Saturday will be donated to the World Wildlife Federation Australia to aid in their response to wildlife and habitat restoration and in their work to imagine innovative solutions for the future of Australia.
