Clyde's Corner

Clyde’s back with two lovely 2016s to get you through the week. Both are Haut-Médoc wines that we’ve been selling for many years, both for the same reason: they offer outstanding value for the price.

This week, Clyde recommends two beauties from the Haut-Médoc.

2016 Beaumont, Haut-Médoc $22.99

Château Beaumont, located near Château Moulin Rouge, is one of our favorite value properties. They produce outstanding wines every year. We have been carrying this wine for over 25 years. Owned by the Beychevelle people, there are many tender-loving hands used in the production of this wine. A must-try for value equals happy Bordeaux lovers.

This lovely 2016 is 50% Cabernet and 47% Merlot with 3% Petit Verdot thrown in. From the Cussac region between St-Julien and Margaux, this stunning value red shows tons of sweet, sexy black cherry aromas and flavors. It is so elegant and sweet, you want to drink it right up. It will cellar well for at least 5 more years. This could be one of the best ever from this overachieving property! Do not miss it.

2016 Clément-Pichon, Haut-Médoc $29.99

A major sleeper of the vintage from major builder/contractor Clement Fayat's fabulous property. Without a doubt, the most beautiful château in Bordeaux. A Loire-style property in the south of the Haut-Médoc region of Bordeaux in the town of Parempuyre, this property is the furthest south of the fine properties of the Haut-Médoc. We have been selling this wine since the great 1996 vintage. The beautiful nose leads to black cherry and coffee notes. There's plenty of fruit and nice balance, allowing this wine to age well for several years. A bit more tannic than the Beaumont, decanting now will help soften it out. There’s a high percentage of Cabernet in this wine. The vines were planted in 1976—the year we started K&L. Drink or cellar a few years.
