That’s a Wrap: Culver City’s Grand Opening Gala

On June 29th, we celebrated what has been several years in the making… the grand opening of our fourth retail store! We really love what we do—we’ve been at it for nearly 50 years!—and we are thrilled to be able to share our passion for wines, beers, and spirits with L.A.’s Westside. We started as a small family-run liquor store in Milbrae in 1976, and the same two families are still at the helm of what is now four Northern and Southern California stores, along with bustling eCommerce, auctions, international imports, wine clubs, storage, tastings, and more! We are Californians through and through, and it’s incredibly exciting to bring local K&Ls to more corners of this beautiful, diverse state.

Co-owner Brian Zucker says, “We love the L.A. market and are proud of our Hollywood location, soon reaching its 20th anniversary. Like in NorCal, we recognized the need to reach customers with more convenient store access. We're much more than an eCommerce retailer, the relationships between staff and customers is really unique here. The Westside of L.A. has been on our radar for years, and finding the perfect spot with parking was a challenge. We instantly loved the Culver City site for its vibrant, historic, and evolving neighborhood. For longtime K&L fans on the Westside, this store offers a fun and convenient way to connect with K&L. And we're especially excited to meet new customers and showcase what sets us apart.”

On a breezy 78-degree day, we welcomed Culver City Vice Mayor Dan O’Brien along with City Council members and community members to officially cut the ceremonial ribbon in front of our newest doors.

Then it was time to celebrate! We transformed our parking lot and brought in winemakers and their representatives from wineries all over the world. It was thrilling to have Jean-Baptiste Meunier from Moulin de la Gardette and Rudi de Pins from Château de Montfaucon—two of our longest-running supporters in the Rhône Valley—fly all the way to L.A. be with us. We had talented Californian winemakers drive down from Northern California to be there, too. Thanks to Chris Cottrell from Bedrock Wine Co. and Under the Wire, and Dan Petroski from Massican for the amazing wine and conversations! All in all, we had 23 tables, hundreds of wines, and a sold-out event. We love the community here and were so happy to welcome so many people to celebrate the store—and the wines that make it all possible!

Thanks to all who joined us and all who have made us feel so welcome in Culver City. We hope to see you soon at your local K&L!
