April Beer Buzz: New Arrivals, Spring Releases and Wheat Beers of Wonder
April K&L Beer Buzz
Michael Pires, K&L Beer Buyer
Hello Beer Drinkers, April is here and allergy season rages on. The weather has been all over the place in the last few weeks, but the hot days of Summer are just around the corner. As always, whether rain or shine, we have some awesome beers coming in for the month of April. For the IPA fans out there, Cellarmaker has released two awesome collab IPAs that are well worth checking out (one with RIIP and the other with Shred). We also have some great Pilsner beers in stock, such as Wonderous Pils or the Spring 2026 Hannabi seasonal release called Lyon. For all you sour enthusiasts, we have Jester King’s La Vie En Rose and Montmorency vs. Balaton (which was a big hit at last month’s tasting). These are bright, fruit-forward sours that are always wonderful and refreshing this time of year.
This month’s tasting will continue with a Spring theme and we will be showcasing some wonderful wheat forward beers from around the world. Wheat beers are a love or hate type of thing for most people. While some view wheat beers as one-note and bland, I think this tasting will truly show the versatility of the grain. I have included the lineup for the tasting (along with date, time, place, and cost) below, and I hope you can all swing by and try.
Whether you are looking for a newly allocated beer or a reliable favorite, you'll find our diverse selection chock full of rarities and classics alike. Below are the most recent additions to our shelves. We receive new opportunities weekly, from local breweries to iconic international bottlings—so check out the up-to-the-minute stock on our website and read on for the best of this week's discoveries.

“Wheat Beers of Wonder” brings together breweries working across distinct traditions, each interpreting wheat through regional methods and fermentation styles shaped by place. In Chicago, Half Acre’s Akari Shogun draws on Japanese-inspired ingredients like lemongrass, while Belgium’s St. Bernardus continues a monastic brewing lineage with witbier brewed in Watou, and Kloster Andechs produces dunkel hefeweizen within a functioning Bavarian monastery brewery; elsewhere, Fieldwork in California builds on Belgian-style wit fermentation, Pasteur Street in Vietnam incorporates passionfruit into its wheat ale, and Drie Fonteinen in Beersel relies on spontaneous fermentation and extended aging to create Oude Geuze from blended lambics. Across these beers, wheat becomes a common thread linking techniques that include open fermentation, fruit integration, and centuries-old monastic brewing traditions.

Featured Arrival:
I am a big fan of this one! Delicious and crisp German-style Pilsner that checks all the boxes of the style. Malt-forward and soft up front with a wonderful biscuit note that shifts to noble hop spice and clean bitterness on the back end.
Wonderous Brewing Company "Wonderous Pils" Pilsner, California (16 oz. can) $5.24
