Iconic Collectible Wines from Our Own Backyard

It’s almost impossible right now to have not read or heard about tariffs disrupting European wine imports. Our entire industry seems to be constantly in flux about pricing and availability. While domestic wine production certainly isn’t immune from the effects of ongoing trade negotiations, the good news is that we have an unbelievable selection of in-stock fine and rare wines produced right here in California, Oregon, and Washington. With a string of exceptional vintages here on the West Coast, and viticulture and winemaking constantly going from strength to strength, it’s a great time to be a collector or consumer of benchmark wines from the U.S. I’ve put together a broad cross section of some of the very best domestic wines in our inventory for your perusal. These are in-stock ready to go, but many are very limited with massive scores so don’t delay if something takes your fancy!

Whites

Often overlooked in the fine wine world so dominated by red wines, outside of a few notable exceptions. I LOVE white wine and find myself drinking much more white than red. Here are some exceptional examples of proven, age-worthy, luxurious white wines to delight the palate.

2023 Realm "Fidelio - Farella Vineyard" Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc $129.95

2023 Eisele Vineyard Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc $134.95

2022 Andremily "White Cuvée" Central Coast White Blend $109.95 97JD 96TWI

Chardonnay

The queen of white grapes, deserving of a section all of its own. This noble variety, hailing from Burgundy originally, has found its way to all corners of the earth. Coastal California and Oregon are particularly well suited to this grape with the predominance of marine sedimentary soils, and long, moderated growing seasons. While white Burgundy might still be the most revered, there are some wines on this list that go toe to toe with their European counterparts. There’s something magical about the contrasting richness and restraint we get from a slightly sunnier climate but huge cooling influence of the vast Pacific Ocean that for me can elevate these wines onto another level entirely.

Pinot Noir

Oh Pinot Noir, the one grape that has single-handedly driven so many people to distraction seeking to understand its elusive allure, drawn in beyond all reason by its seductive ways. While names like DRC and Vogüé, Jayer, Leroy, and Rousseau still dominate the pinnacle of high-end collectible Pinot Noir, I’d argue that California and Oregon Pinot Noir offer greater consistency of quality and significantly better value for all but the most affluent collectors. Many of the very best Pinot Noirs produced here result from exceptional terroirs, meticulous farming, and precise winemaking—and rarely exceed $150 for even the most celebrated wines. Here are some that are more than worthy of your attention.

2022 Flowers "Sea View Ridge - Estate" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir $104.95 96WE

2022 Pisoni "Estate" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir $109.95 97TWI 95VN

Horsepower

We recently received a small allocation of Christophe Baron’s Horsepower wines. This small but ambitious project to grow world-class Syrah in Walla Walla Valley has captured the attention of savvy collectors around the globe. Christophe’s vineyards, biodynamic farming methods, and, of course, use of horses for farming and cultivation have wowed even the most cynical Northern Rhône enthusiasts. If you are seeking pure, raw, terroir driven, varietally correct Syrah (and a little Grenache) you have to have these wines in you cellar.

Napa Cabs

Nothing says luxury and collectible in the U.S. like Napa Valley Cabernet, and for good reason. Napa Valley is considered by many the best place on earth to grow Cabernet Sauvignon. From the rugged volcanic mountain peaks, to the alluvial gravels of the valley floor, Napa produces powerful, structured, impressive wines that can be both bombastic and hedonistic in their youth, but also age worthy with longevity that rivals the First Growths of Bordeaux. With recent exceptional vintages like 2018, 2019, and 2021 all in the market, it’s a great time to shop for Napa Cab and as always we have a huge selection of blue chip producers.
