Paride Iaretti
Gattinara from the Alto Piemonte — Nebbiolo on volcanic soil, north of the Langhe, from a small estate with two cru bottlings and a Coste della Sesia for the table.
Gattinara sits in the hills of the Alto Piemonte, where Nebbiolo (called Spanna here) grows on iron-rich volcanic porphyry rather than the marls of the Langhe. The wines are leaner, higher in acid and famously long-lived; in the nineteenth century they were the most sought-after of all Piedmont's reds, and the best estates are now bringing that reputation back.
Paride Iaretti is one of the small producers of the appellation. We bring in two Gattinara bottlings, "Pietro" and "Valerana", and the Coste della Sesia Nebbiolo, the everyday wine of the zone. Stocks come and go with the vintage; the shop link below shows what is on the shelf today.
