Rocca di Castagnoli
Chianti Classico from the medieval hamlet of Castagnoli above Gaiole — a Gran Selezione that shows everything Gaiole can do, and a Chianti for every night from the family's Fattoria di Scannano.
Rocca di Castagnoli takes its name from the fortified hamlet of Castagnoli, on the heights above Gaiole in Chianti in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Gaiole's high, rocky vineyards give some of the most structured Sangiovese in the appellation, and the estate's single-vineyard "Stielle" Gran Selezione is the proof — dark fruit, lavender, licorice and cloves, with the pedigree the category was created to recognise.
At the other end of the range, "Fattoria di Scannano" is a Chianti — the broader Tuscan appellation, not Classico — from the family's second property: Sangiovese for the table, at a price that makes it an easy habit.
