San Polino
Organic, biodynamically farmed Brunello from the south-eastern slopes of Montalcino — perfumed, finely structured, and now among the most highly rated wines of the appellation.
San Polino is a small estate on the south-eastern side of Montalcino, farmed organically and biodynamically with a conviction that extends to the forest around the vineyards. The wines are made without hurry and without make-up, and the critics have caught up: the 2021 Brunello and the "Helichrysum" bottling drew scores in the mid-90s and higher across the board.
"Helichrysum", named for the wild everlasting flower that grows between the vines, is the estate's selection — heady with leather, lavender and dark spice, firmly structured, built to age. The Riserva is made only in years of incomparable greatness, or when there is a particularly compelling story to tell; 2019 was the former.
