BDX 2020: Classic Wines, Atypical Year

When France opened its borders in early June, our team was on the second plane out of California. To say that the excitement was palpable is putting it mildly. After a year-plus of being locked down and locked away from his beloved France, our co-owner and Bordeaux addict Clyde Beffa, Jr. couldn’t wait to go back. And indeed, we were among the very first Americans that many of the French had seen, and we were certainly among the only to taste the 2020 vintage at the châteaux. We were able to learn from the winemakers, taste wines fresh from barrels, and get a perspective on this vintage not afforded to those who didn’t leave terra firma in the U.S.

In this week’s newsletter, you’ll find our direct-from-Bordeaux 2020 vintage preview. Clyde talks about the weather conditions, the market, and of course the wines, many of which are absolutely swoon-worthy. The overall theme of the 2020 vintage is elegance, with fresh fruit and classic tannin structure. From blockbusters like Haut-Brion to modern-era classics like Pontet-Canet and Lynch-Bages, there are wines for Bordeaux lovers of every stripe.

Please note the wines below are offered as Bordeaux futures—these wines arrive for pickup or delivery in mid-2023. Please check out our entire selection of 2020s for OWC and large formats, and don't hesitate to reach out with any special requests if you're not finding a format listed on our site.
