Domaine Albert Morot's Seductive 2021 Beaunes

With over 8 hectares of vines planted over 10 vineyard sites, Albert Morot has many fantastic holdings. It’s their Beaune 1er Cru offerings, however, that really show how bright this domaine can shine. Finding excellent 1er Cru red Burgundy that is both delicious now and can age gracefully for less than $60 a bottle is difficult to say the least—but this quintet from Albert Morot fits the bill! The set of wines from the 2021 vintage are packed with beautiful fruit, seductive aromas, and hints of mineral and earth. I’m guessing that you’ll be hard pressed to pick a favorite out of these five wines—each is distinctively different and reflects its unique Beaune 1er Cru terroir.

All five of the 2021 Albert Morot Beaune 1er Crus are priced at $59.99 and each has its own unique personality. The 2021 Domaine Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru "Cent-Vignes" 93DC 91BH comes from a hillside vineyard that lies on the outskirts of the town of Beaune. Loaded with beautiful fruit flavors of red and blackberry along with subtle spice and subtle hints of oak frame, this is a delicious and approachable red.

The 2021 Domaine Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru “Bressandes” 93DC 93BH is an absolute stunner this year with gorgeous red fruit notes seamlessly melded against hints of crushed stone and pepper. The acidity here is racy and the wine hits high point after high point as it rushes toward a long, supple finish.

The purity of the fruit in the 2021 Domaine Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru “Toussaints” 93DC 91BH is remarkable. The fruit comes from a small vineyard surrounded by Cent-Vignes, Bressandes, and Les Grèves 1er Cru vineyards. Red fruits shimmer here with layer upon layer of gorgeous red fruits that are so pretty and delineated that this wine is irresistible in its youth.

The 2021 Domaine Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru “Marconnets” 93BH 92DC is one of the riper wines in this quintet with cassis-like fruit and spice notes intermixed with hints of oak and a fresh, lively palate.

Last, but most certainly not least, the 2021 Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru “Les Aigrots” 92DC 92BH has many of the same beautiful fruit notes that the Toussaints demonstrates, but it has a touch more structure and depth. In its youth, this power slightly obscures the fruit but it means that this is the most ageable of all the wines.

If you’re looking for top-notch 1er cru red Burgundy for under $60 then you should stock up on these amazing wines.
