The holidays ask a lot of what’s in your glass. Wines need to welcome guests, carry meals, and hold their own long after the plates are cleared. This guide reflects our aapproach to seasonal pairings, moving from sparkling wines that start the evening right, to whites and reds that complement the table with ease, and finishing with Scotch that’s meant for lingering conversations. Each section highlights bottles we trust for holiday meals with a focus on versatility, balance, and value.
Read MoreI love Thanksgiving. I love it so much that we usually do it twice a year chez Westby. I love it so much that I own a turkey suit and wear it every year the day before Thanksgiving in the store. I love it so much that I have accumulated some weight from enjoying it to its fullest—mostly by stuffing myself with stuffing. Why do I love it? Because it is the best time to be thankful for all of life’s blessings, and to celebrate those blessings with food, friends, rosé Champagne and red Burgundy!
Read MoreChoosing wine for Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be stressful—it should be part of the fun. The meal is a celebration of family, gratitude, and flavors that stretch from buttery mashed potatoes to cranberry sauce and roast turkey. With so many textures and personalities at the table, the right bottle isn’t just about what’s on the plate—it’s about creating a sense of connection. The best wines for Thanksgiving, I’ve found, are the ones that bring people together as easily as they complement the food.
Read MoreIt was a great honor to be invited by Krug this July on their Ambassade Voyage. Spending time with other Krug lovers from the industry—mostly Michelin Star chefs—and learning about Krug was a highlight of my career. It is the second time I have had the opportunity to travel with this group, but the first time that the destination was Krug’s own facilities in Champagne. My mind is still blown—it was the experience of a lifetime.
Read MoreCinnamon and I wait impatiently every year for Krug to drop their ingredient—a program that has now been going on for 10 years now. While this is meant as a challenge to the Michelin-starred chefs and their sommeliers in the world of haute cuisine, we love to take it up as home cooks and inject a little simplicity into the mix. When we found out that this year it was carrot, we were fired up to try again. You can check out some of the past pairings that we have done here.

Read MoreNew Year’s Eve is the one night of the year when everyone is having a party. For me, I prefer to do it at home—it gets a little crazy out there with all those people who don’t get out much! So I save my budget for caviar, and, of course, Champagne, and have a great time at my own dining room table! Caviar and Champagne are a great and storied pairing, but I have found it to take a little more attention than just throwing any bottle together with those precious eggs.

I want to thank our SF sales team for using their taste buds extraordinaire in creating an impressive and delectable lineup of holiday cheese and wine pairings for our 2nd Annual Big Cheese competition. Our team made their selections based on a process that considered each cheese's unique flavors and textures and how they complemented our wines.

Read MoreEvery year, Krug announces an ingredient of the year to inspire the chefs of the world to create dishes to go with their spectacular champagne. Not wanting to be left out, Cinnamon and I make something for the home kitchen as well—it is an excellent excuse to drink Krug on a weeknight. This year, the ingredient is flowers, and luckily for us, nasturtiums grow wild in the Willows neighborhood of Menlo Park where we live. It only took a short walk to forage a little bag of these edible flowers—in June they practically pour out onto the sidewalk!
Read MoreToday is the worldwide release for one of the best of the great 2012 vintage in Champagne, and we are lucky to have an allocation. We had a preview of the 2012 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvée Louis" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne before today’s release, and. after tasting it in the morning with Clément from Billecart, I knew that I had to make something special to have with it at dinner. This is a Blanc de Blancs that has it all—and promises to develop well for at least a generation.
Read MoreChâteau Palmer is easily on many wine consumers Top 5 all-time Bordeaux properties list—including mine—and for good reason! It’s technically a Third Growth, but one that ranks with some of the most well-regarded châteaux in the whole region. Recently, on not exactly just a random Monday night—but as Monday nights go this was not bad—I was lucky enough to experience a deep Palmer lineup and an exquisite food pairing menu. The occasion? It happened to be the only day that is a command (March 4th)—and my father, Clyde Beffa’s, birthday.
