The Majestic Wines of Domaine Weinbach

Few wineries have a history as long and as storied as Domaine Weinbach, which can trace its origins back to vines that were planted on the property in the 9th century. It was eventually established as a winery in 1612 by the Capuchin friars. Named after a stream that runs through the property, it was purchased in 1898 by the Faller Family, which still runs it today. Since 2016 Catherine Faller has run the estate with the help of her two sons Eddy and Theo, employing both organic and biodynamic farming practices. The wines of Domaine Weinbach are wonderful representations of Alsace with a focus on purity, balance, and elegance. Weinbach consistently ranks among the top two to three producers in all of Alsace.

The 2021 vintage in Alsace is a strong one but sadly also a very small vintage, production-wise. These racy and fresh wines are sure to sell out quickly, so fast action will ensure you won’t miss out on your favorites.

The 2021 Domaine Weinbach Pinot Blanc Alsace $27.99 JS92 is a beautiful Pinot Blanc rendition loaded with aromas of chamomile and fresh lemon notes. Always a favorite of mine, the 2021 Domaine Weinbach Muscat Alsace $36.99 VN90 displays gorgeous aromas of peach blossom and white flowers with a succulent palate packed with orchard fruits and spice. Muscat is underappreciated and a great choice to pair with Asian cuisines.

Named after Catherine’s son, the 2021 Domaine Weinbach "Cuvée Théo" Riesling Alsace $39.99 JS93 VN90 is a classic example of Alsatian Riesling with aromas of citrus rising from the glass. An array of orange, tangerine, and lemon with a hint of petrol and wet stone notes fan out across the palate.

At Domaine Weinbach their Gewürztraminers are as great as their Rieslings, and the 2021 Domaine Weinbach "Altenbourg" Gewürztraminer Alsace $49.99 JS97 is simply amazing with seductive aromas of jasmine and orchids that lead to a palate flush with perfectly ripe peach flavors—this is a must-have Gewürztraminer. The next offering climbs the ladder a bit qualitatively, the 2021 Domaine Weinbach "Cuvée Colette" Riesling Alsace $49.99 JS95 VN92 comes from 50-60-year-old vines and displays exotic fruit notes with pithy aromas and the perfect hint of reductive notes and lemon peel.

One of the rarer wines in the portfolio is the 2021 Domaine Weinbach "Les Caracoles" Pinot Gris Alsace $49.99 JS96. The fruit is sourced from 40-50-year-old vines and is bone dry with a mouthwatering feel and shimmering lemon notes that shower and caress the palate. Powerful and lush the 2021 Domaine Weinbach Furstentum Gewürztraminer Grand Cru Alsace $69.99 JS96 explodes on the palate with notes of peach, papaya, and spice. Last, but most certainly not least, the 2021 Domaine Weinbach "Cuvée Ste. Catherine" Schlossberg Riesling Grand Cru Alsace $109.99 JS98 VN96 ranks amongst the very best wines to come out of Alsace—a towering Riesling that displays complexity, precision, and a core of tightly wound fruit. This monumental Riesling can age gracefully or be the focal point of your next wine adventure.

The wines of Domaine Weinbach are worthy of your attention as they are testaments to Alsatian greatness.
