Domaine des Remiziéres Offers Classic Northern Rhône at Every Day Prices

Every time I read a wine article, it seems there’s always a new, trending region or style emerging. Working in the industry, I’m lucky enough to try something new every week so I get exposed to some of the best wines being made today, across the spectrum of regions and styles. When I’m looking for a bottle to fit in the daily drinker category, I crave something classics—familiar, reliable, and able to overdeliver for their price range. I want something delicious and versatile enough to pair with dinner. The Rhône Valley is full of such value-driven reds, with my favorites being the Syrah from the north. One standout from our shelves is the lineup from Domaine des Remiziéres, a family winery that has been producing wines and growing grapes for four generations. The estate is now managed by Phillipe Desmeures, his daughter Emilie, and son Christophe. They have expanded to 30 hectares with vineyards in Crozes-Hermitage, St-Joseph, and Hermitage. Emilie now oversees the winemaking with her brother Christophe tending to the vineyards.

Their 2022 Domaine des Remizières "Origine" Crozes-Hermitage $19.99 is one of the best-valued Syrah we offer. It’s ready to drink now and showcases the purity of the fruit with explosive aromas of mulberry, boysenberries, bramble, longan, savory dried herbs, lavender, and a touch of leather. The palate is fresh, with lively flavors of red berries, a hint of black peppercorn, and gravel on the juicy finish. This solid Syrah from a great vintage is a constant on my dinner table. The Desmeures family destems all of the fruit before fermentation and then ages the wine in tank and large oak foudre to give it depth and texture without an overpowering oakiness. This is a pure expression of the grape and the gravelly soils from which it comes.

The whole Remiziéres lineup delivers really delicious wine at great price points, and is a must-try for anyone who loves the rich and succulent Syrahs of Northern Rhône.
